What Is First Touch?
The words “First Touch” speak of two thoughts, two messages. They tell of the priority of the covenant relationship between GOD and Man. Here, we focus on each side of this covenant union. First, God’s reach to man. Amos 3:6-8 lets us know that The LORD does nothing without first revealing it to His prophets. In Jeremiah 33:3 we are invited to call out and be shown great and mighty things that we don’t know. God speaks! The section titled Utterance, contains some of these prophetic releases in writing.
Secondly, Jesus demonstrates the prioritization that we are to give our covenant union with God. After His resurrection Jesus says to Mary Magdalene “Touch me not, for I have not yet ascended to my Father” (John 20:17). Jesus reserved the first touch for his Father, our Father. The word touch in this passage also translates “attach to, cling to” and more interestingly “to fasten fire to a thing” (G680 and G681 Strong’s Concordance). I believe that Jesus was saying to Mary ‘the first influential, directional, shaping impression, intimate embrace will be the touch of my Father’.
Likewise, the First Touch of our day must be the touch of our Father. Yet, not only at the start of our day - but throughout our day, whenever faced with a challenge, or a decision we should immediately put up ‘the hand’, say shhhh, or speak to the situation: ‘Don’t Touch Me! That privilege belongs to my Father’.
Titled Ascents, we have reserved a section that contains devotionals, quotes and thoughts which will fortify your First Touch resolve.
